WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man is facing charges after police say he drunkenly fought officers during an arrest, causing one officer to suffer an apparent ACL tear.

According to the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department, on July 20 around 12:37 a.m. officers were called for a domestic incident involving a man following a woman and forcing her into a car on Main Street.

Police say the man, identified as David Thomas, 29, of Nanticoke, was allegedly drinking at the St. Nicholas-St. Mary Parish Bazaar on Friday night and got into an argument with the woman.

When police confronted Thomas, they reported he smelled of alcohol and was pushing officers back, leading to a physical struggle that ended with an officer apparently tearing his ACL.

Officers said Thomas tried to run away but police used a Taser to subdue him.

Thomas was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, resisting arrest, simple assault, driving under the influence, and disorderly conduct.

Thomas was held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on a $25,000 set bail.
