Former police chief named Commonwealth’s detective
WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Wayne Bird was sworn in as a detective for the 34th District Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The announcement was made Tuesday morning on social media. Bird is a former police chief of the Williamsburg Police Department, lieutenant detective for the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, and was a patrolman with the Corbin Police Department.
Kentucky Owner Faces New Setback In Effort To Win New License For Now-Silent AM.
The Federal Communications Commission says a Kentucky broadcaster is not entitled to an open-ended license term after he failed to pay several years of annual regulator fees. The FCC in 2020 canceled the license for “Gospel 710” WEKC, Williamsburg, KY after it didn’t receive the annual fee from Gerard Parks, who also failed to file the paperwork seeking a reconsideration of its decision for 18 months — well outside the 30-day response deadline.

Police Release Identity of Woman Killed in Fatal Crash in Laurel County
Laurel County Sheriff John Root and London Police Chief Chuck Johnson report an investigation into a fatal crash. The crash happened Monday on US 25 about 7 miles South of London. Deputy Brad Mink, Deputy Joe Breeding and London Police Officers Hobie Daugherty and Lt. Ryan Jackson of the London – Laurel County Accident Reconstruction Team report that apparently a motorcycle was traveling north on US 25 when it lost control ejecting the driver and passenger. The driver, 54-year-old Randy Schenk, of Corbin, was flown to UK Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The passenger, 48-year-old Sherry Schenk, of Corbin, was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph-London where she was later pronounced dead. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
OTG Wins Burger Week…Again
Another Burger Week in Corbin is in the books. 13 restaurants in and surrounding downtown Corbin all created custom hamburgers the community got to vote on and at the end of the week, Old Town Grill in Corbin emerged the winner with its Jammin’ Bacon Burger. This is the third year in a row Old Town Grill has been crowned the champion. Old Town Grill is now focused on winning next year’s Burger Week and Dessert Week in October.

New Riff founder named to Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame
New Riff founder Ken Lewis is being inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame. Lewis retired in March after a 50-year career in the beverage alcohol industry. In addition to founding New Riff, Lewis started The Party Source and drove legal and legislative changes to allow Sunday and credit card alcohol sales.
Vehicle inspection fees to increase in July
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Beginning on July 15, a new mandate increasing the cost of vehicle inspections will go into effect in Kentucky. Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said that while the inspections only take around 15-20 minutes to complete, depending on parking in Downtown Bowling Green, that time can add up.
