Visitors tour landmark home to be razed for police station
WESTFIELD — About 350 people visited the Atwater Mansion on July 20-21 to take a look at Westfield history, and to say goodbye. Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church hosted open houses both days at the 6 Union St. property, which formerly served as the parish’s rectory. The city of Westfield has an agreement with the Catholic Diocese of Springfield to purchase the property, which it plans to raze and use as the site of a new police station.
Exploring the Bryan Homestead: A way to connect with nature
CUMMINGTON — For the first time in years, the public is invited to explore the Bryant Homestead through thematic walking tours inspired by the legacy of William Cullen Bryant, a local poet, journalist and editor. DeTours: Exploring the Bryant Homestead began on July 13 and will continue through August. In partnership with Trustees of the Reservation, the Cummington Historical Commission and Project Art, the tours will be led by local experts in fields that Bryant’s work helped to shape.

NORTHAMPTON — A long running art school that has been around for a little over two decades is taking an exciting next step with its model. Art Always, an all-encompassing art school that currently shares a space with High Five Books in Florence, announced in late July that it is expanding its operations to a second studio space at 188 Pine St, which used to be a church.

New kind of theater group comes to Amherst
AMHERST — Valley Players is a new kind of theater group with no formal home and a strong drive to bring theater to the entire community. “Our goal is to make not just community theater, but theater centered on community. To that end, our productions will aim to be nimble, meaningful, and accessible,” explained Matteo Pangallo, president of Valley Players. “Our present aim is not to create a theater space but to fill spaces with theater. Nimble theater reaches into the community, bringing plays to the audience. It builds relationships with venues, traditional and nontraditional, and explores the unbounded creative potential in the unexpected places all around us.”

Center Fresh Farmers Market thrives at Chestnut Street location
CHICOPEE — Center Fresh Farmers Market has returned to Chicopee Center for another year but this time at Lucy Wisniowski Memorial Park, 32 Chestnut St. The market started on June 6 and will take place every Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. until Oct. 31. It usually is rain or shine unless an extreme weather situation takes place due to heat or a thunderstorm, according to Farmer’s Market Manager Erin Sewell.
