PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- CBS News Philadelphia started investigating the issues surrounding bike lanes in the city back in April and now, during the summer months, data shows it's the deadliest time of the year for cyclists.Earlier this week, 30-year-old Barbara Friedes, a doctor at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia was hit and killed while riding her bike in Rittenhouse Square. Police: Man arrested, officers seize drugs after investigation in Allentown
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Police in Allentown say they arrested a man and seized suspected fentanyl and ecstasy pills after an investigation. Tyrone Fowler, 50, of Philadelphia, faces charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, according to a news release from the Allentown Police Department.

Another baby has died in NJ this week after being left in hot car
EAST HANOVER — Another infant has died after being left in a car in New Jersey. Essence Springer bought a hot mint tea at the Dunkin' drive-thru on Liberty Avenue in Hillside on Dec. 17, 2023, according to the lawsuit filed last week.
Big box store shopping in New Jersey just got smaller
In an ever ugly and sad trend another big box store announced that they are closing a chunk of their stores and trying to reorganize to stay above drowning in debt. National discount retailer Big Lots, with close to 1,400 stores nationally including twenty-seven in Monmouth and Ocean counties here in New Jersey, has announced that they are closing up to forty stores nationally and opening three more. Big Lots closed fifty-two stores in 2023 due to inferior performance.

Superstorm Sandy group eyes ballots, insurance surcharges and oil fees to fund resiliency projects
LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — A 2% surcharge on property insurance policies, mandatory fees on the oil and gas industries, and holding a public referendum are ways a public-private group formed in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy recommends to pay for projects to protect New Jersey from the next big storm. In a report released this week, Rebuild By Design, which formulates plans for disaster resilience, says New Jersey is being pummeled by climate-related disasters, costing taxpayers $7.2 billion over a decade. It urges the state to hold a public referendum for voters to approve investments in climate-related resiliency projects. It also advocates for a surcharge on property and casualty insurance policies, as well as the creation of a “Superfund” for the resiliency projects to be paid for through mandatory charges to the oil and gas industries. Two Democratic state lawmakers introduced a bill to do that in New Jersey earlier this month. New York passed a similar law, which is awaiting action by Gov. Kathy Hochul, and similar efforts have happened in Massachusetts, Vermont and Maryland, the group said.
