Wood County fire destroys structure, claims lives of two dogs
WALKER — A fire which destroyed an outbuilding and killed two pets at a residence in Walker is being ruled accidental. The Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department, along with the East Wood and Waverly volunteer fire departments, responded to 877 Wright Rd. in Walker to a report of a structure fire Monday at around 4:30 p.m., said Deer Walk Fire Chief Matt Whitlatch.

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education held a statutory meeting Monday night where elections were held for president, vice president, and members were appointed to the various boards and committees. Artists continuing work on Parkersburg flood wall mural
PARKERSBURG — Work is continuing on the flood wall mural as artists are working on creating images that tie into the history of the area. This is the fourth year of the project with the work in “Phase 4” which will include five sections of the wall done by four artists, said Edward Escandon, a representative from the Floodwall Mural Committee.

Lifeguard on Duty: Algarhy recognized for saving child’s life
MARIETTA — The Marietta Fire Department presented an award to Yousuf Algarhy, a lifeguard at Marietta Aquatic Center, for saving a 6-year-old boy’s life on June 14. According to Algarhy, the boy had hit his head earlier on the pirate ship and had to sit out of the pool to recover. After the boy had recovered, he went back into the pool but went into an area where the water was too deep. Algarhy mentioned he heard the boy yell, and jumped into the pool. Algarhy said he got to the boy right as his head went underwater.
