Unbeaten teams Eastwood, Oak Harbor to clash for NBC crown
The most compelling matchup of the area's 2024 high school football regular season schedule is set for Friday night, when a battle of unbeatens to decide the Northern Buckeye Conference championship has Eastwood visiting Oak Harbor. The host Rockets (8-0, 5-0 NBC) enter as defending conference champions and as the preseason pick of NBC coaches to repeat that title this year. Pipe bursts at Start High School Tuesday, TPS says
TOLEDO, Ohio — A pipe burst in a bathroom at Start High School Tuesday, a spokesperson with Toledo Public Schools said. TPS said no one was injured during the incident. Students and staff were moved outside while the situation was assessed due to water on the floor and in the hallway.

TPS Superintendent Romules Durant named 2024 Urban Educator of the Year
Romules Durant, superintendent of Toledo Public Schools, received recognition as the 2024 Urban Educator of the Year at the Council of the Great City Schools’ 68th annual fall conference in Dallas. Urban school leaders applauded Mr. Durant during the Council’s 35th annual Green-Garner Award Banquet Thursday night, where he received the prestigious leadership award. “Romules Durant has been a transformational leader and a tireless advocate for students in Toledo Public Schools to become college and career-ready graduates,” said council Executive Director Ray Hart. “His vision, determination, and passion for excellence and his 11 years of steady leadership in the district has shown all of us in urban education what is possible. Our sincere congratulations to Romules and Toledo.” Five big-city school superintendents competed for the nation’s highest honor in urban education leadership, recognizing, in alternating years, an outstanding superintendent and school board member from 78 of the largest urban public school systems in the country.
UT's Schroeder to present State of the University address
University of Toledo interim President Matt Schroeder will “acknowledge our challenges, celebrate our successes, and set the direction for our future” in the annual State of the University address Wednesday. Mr. Schroeder will discuss his vision for UT to be “the regional force powering opportunities to learn, care, work, and play,” according to a statement issued Tuesday. His address will touch on UT’s efforts to “deliver innovative academic programs and student experiences, optimize UT Health operations, attract and retain talent to our region, and make UT a destination.” The speech will begin at 3 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Auditorium and will be followed by a reception. University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the public are invited to attend.
