Good News For Students Of Lockport Township High School Central Campus
Superintendent of Lockport Township High School District 205 Bob McBride shared a video on the progress being made at the Central Campus following a ceiling collapse at the school last November. The good news is that Lockport High School Central campus will welcome students back to the school on Monday, August 19th. Following the roof collapse an inspection of all 379 rooms were either repaired or deemed safe.

CPS proposed a budget of $9.9 billion for 2025, with $149 million in new spending over 2024. The budget includes administrative staffing reductions to cover a $500 million deficit. Johnson rejected the proposed cuts.

OPRF must address antisemitism complaint
This is in response to the Wednesday Journal article: “Complaint claims OPRF fosters a ‘hostile antisemitic environment’” [oakpark.com, July 12] at the July 11 Board of Education Special Meeting, Oak Park & River Forest High School made a statement regarding a formal community-based complaint submitted to the Illinois State Board of Education and to the Illinois Attorney General’s Civil Rights Bureau. The complaint alleges that OPRF High School is complicit in allowing antisemitism to fester within its halls by not adhering to its own polices and existing case law. 67 Chargers Earn Academic All-Region 4 for Spring Semester
Sixty-seven Sandburg student-athletes earned Academic All-NJCAA Region 4 honors for the 2024 spring semester. Honorees had to achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours to earn the distinction. Among Sandburg’s recipients, 44 had a GPA of 3.50 or better. Nineteen Chargers had a perfect 4.0 GPA, and each Sandburg team was represented within that group of student-athletes with an unblemished GPA.
District 65 appoints Katie Speth as assistant superintendent of instructional leadership
District 65 announced Katie Speth’s appointment as Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Leadership, as approved by the School Board. Speth has extensive experience as a principal, teacher, and most recently as a consultant in the nonprofit sector. Beginning in 2016, she served as the principal of Disney II Magnet School in the Chicago Public Schools system, a preK-12 school of nearly 1,200 students. Her deep knowledge of curriculum and instruction led to increased agency and collaboration among educators which fueled student growth and significantly improved school climate. During her six-year tenure, the school earned the prestigious recognition of being named a National Blue Ribbon School by the US Department of Education.

It has come to my attention that there is an utmost lack of student bike stands surrounding the high school. As a student at OPRF, I faced the issue of limited bike spots often and in most cases I had to squeeze in. With the addition of more bike racks near all entrances, students like me will be able to have enough space to lock our bikes in the morning without having to press in.
