Columbia’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) trailer. “Why wasn’t our incident command center used?” That was the question raised by Council Vice President Eric Kauffman at Tuesday night’s Columbia Borough Council meeting in regard to last week’s tragic fire at Tollbooth Antiques. Kauffman was referring to the borough’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) trailer for managing responses to emergencies in Columbia. Kauffman said the fire went to six alarms. Council President Heather Zink also wondered why the unit wasn’t used and said that a lot of money was spent on the equipment. After a brief discussion, the question went unanswered by other officials present.

Prosecutor to pursue death penalty against former Pocono couple for child's death
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office intends to pursue the death penalty for a former Pocono couple charged with a 12-year-old's murder. Rendell A. Hoagland, 52, and his girlfriend Cindy M. Warren, 46, both of West Caln Township and formerly of Monroe County, were initially charged in May with attempted criminal homicide and other charges in the death of Hoagland’s daughter, Malinda Hoagland.

Broadband authority OKs $20M for laptops
(The Center Square) — The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority voted Thursday to spend $20 million on more than 14,000 laptops to grow internet access in the commonwealth.
