Jesse Owens' high school is trying to revive its track team
One of the most closely watched events at the upcoming Olympics is track and field. Athletes will run sprints, jump hurdles and more, hoping to emulate or even surpass track stars of the past - stars like Jesse Owens. In 1936, he won four gold medals in Berlin. Inspired by that history, the high school where Owens got his running start is working to revive their boys' track and field team. Lake Erie College has announced the appointment of Laura Stockhaus as the interim dean of the School of Equine Studies. Stockhaus, who has been a faculty member at the Painesville college since 2013, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to equine education, according to a news release from Lake Erie.
Another Cleveland school board member steps down, the fifth in the last year
A longtime Cleveland Metropolitan School District board of education member has resigned, making him the fifth board member to step down in a year's time. Robert Heard Sr. has been on the board since 2004 and previously served as the board’s chair from 2007 to 2009 as well as president of the Ohio Association of School Boards from 2021 to 2022. Heard did not list a reason in the resignation letter he sent to Mayor Justin Bibb on July 11.
Siegal Lifelong Learning names new director of Jewish Lifelong Learning
Case Western Reserve University’s Siegal Lifelong Learning program announced Dafna Ben-Yosef as its new director of Jewish Lifelong Learning, according to a news release. Ben-Yosef earned her Master of Arts degree in bioethics from The Ohio State University in Columbus and a Ph.D. in medical sciences from the Technion Institute of Technology in Israel. She also earned her bachelor’s degree and Master of Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
