Wilmette police took four individuals into custody Wednesday night for allegedly firing a gun multiple times.

No one was reported injured and no property damage was located, according to police.

According to the a release from the Wilmette Police Department , a Wilmette officer heard several gunshots at 11:51 p.m. near the 3600 block of Lake Avenue, west of the Edens Expressway. The officer located the suspect vehicle in a commercial driveway and took four individuals into custody and recovered a semi-automatic handgun.

The preliminary investigation reportedly found that the suspects were driving on Interstate 94 from Chicago to Prospect Heights when they exited on Lake Avenue westbound, pulling into a gravel commercial driveway near 3600 Lake Ave.

Wilmette Police Chief Kyle Murphy said that there is no connection between the subjects and the location or neighboring businesses.

At least one subject exited the vehicle and fired five or six rounds in an unknown direction, Murphy said, adding that the individuals involved were uncooperative with police.

Murphy said that the department received no resident concerns about the incident.

“Our officer just happened to be positioned in the perfect location and he heard it and quickly responded,” Murphy said.

The release says that the area was searched and there is no evidence of injury or damage to property.

All four subjects remain in custody, and the case remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time, and police say there is no concern to public safety at this time.
