Police charge second teen in Wilmette armed robbery

A second teenager has been charged in the armed robbery of a Wilmette jogger on May 4.

Authorities indicted an 18-year-old man from Skokie on June 6 for his involvement in the crime, charging him with armed robbery and aggravated unlawful restraint.

The indictment comes about three weeks after the first arrest related to the May 4 attack. On May 14, the Wilmette Police Department arrested an 18-year-old Chicago man and charged him with armed robbery and unlawful use of the weapon.

At the time of the attack, police say that the victim was jogging near Beechwood and Hunter avenues in Wilmette around 9 a.m. when an individual pointed a gun at her and demanded her cellphone. Police say that the suspect then got into a car and fled the scene. The victim’s cellphone was later found by police in Chicago.

During their investigation into the incident, police were also able to identify a vehicle that they believe was involved in the crime. Police say that the vehicle was stolen out of Chicago and that it was later located in Chicago. Police have since identified the vehicle using surveillance footage.
