Circle K off Interstate 95 and Raleigh Road Parkway reopened Wednesday. The business is touted as the largest EV charging site in the state and is home to the state’s first Krystal restaurant.

Wilson resident Tomeka Evans stopped in to get a look at the major upgrades. She drives by the store every day on her way to work in Rocky Mount. But Evans was really excited about trying out the famous Krystal burgers.

“We’re the first one in North Carolina,” she said. “Wilson is coming up.”

Wilson Chamber of Commerce officials joined Circle K and Krystal business leaders for a ribbon-cutting to mark the grand reopening. Wilson City Councilmen James Johnson and Derrick Creech were also there.

The 6,781-square-foot store will employ 25 team members. It features 18 gas pumps beneath its fuel canopy. There are five lanes of high-speed diesel offering DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), along with truck parking and a certified automated truck scale.

The store has 20 Tesla and five Circle K charging spots as well the 2,000-square-foot Krystal restaurant, according to a company press release.

“There are so many new things (customers) can look forward to here,” said Robbie Craft, operations manager of commercial diesel for Circle K.

Selma resident Jon Strickland was especially excited about the Tesla super-charging stations. Strickland said he and other Tesla owners have watched Circle K’s progress over the past several months.

“It promotes EV use and makes it more accessible,” he said.

The store offered food samples, raffle prizes and giveaways throughout the day, including free EV charging and a 40-cent-per-gallon fuel discount from 4-7 p.m.

“It’s a great state-of-the-art highway stop,” Will Rice, Circle K’s vice president of operations for the Coastal Carolinas region, told the crowd. “This is an amazing project.”

The store is located at 4940 Raleigh Road Parkway near I-95’s Exit 121.
