More than 100 golfers at the Teeing Up with Zack fundraising golf tournament raised $10,500 to donate to Wilson’s Miracle Field.
The June 21 tournament boasted 26 teams. The donation was presented Monday night before the Wilson Tobs game, with tournament namesake Zackary Jordan throwing out the first pitch.
“I just want to say a big heartfelt thank you to everybody that showed up,” Jordan said. “We had amazing weather and an amazing turnout. We had an incredible tournament this year. We prayed for good weather for that week and had great weather for that tournament. It was a little hot, but other than that it was good.”
Jordan said the next tournament is April 26 at Wedgewood Golf Course, where this year’s tournament was held.
”We just wanted to thank all of our sponsors and all of the players who came out to help us reach our goal,” said Zack’s dad, Dennis Jordan, an organizer for the event. “We had returning sponsors, and we had some new sponsors. All of them made the event a success. We also want to thank all of the volunteers that came out to help. It was a tremendous blessing and helped make the event go so smooth. Thank you to our committee members who worked so hard to make this a success as well. We are thankful for everyone.”
Kelsie Newsome, special populations and senior specialist with Wilson Parks and Recreation Department, said she was stoked to participate in the tournament.
“I am on cloud 9 right now. This is such a fun atmosphere. I am so glad that we could come to the Tobs, and they were such great hosts for us. We are just so excited to be out here enjoying baseball and the field,” Newsome said.
Newsome said the new Miracle Field, which opened last year, has brought out more Wilson residents with special needs.
“We are definitely reaching more people than we have had in the past because of the new program and because of baseball,” Newsome said. “We have some fun new things in store for this year because of the gracious donation of the golf tournament, so we are just really excited.
“A lot of focus the past couple of seasons has been to just secure the field, secure the location and funding for that, so now, anything coming our way is just kind of icing on top and just really making it our own and really put the Wilson way on it.”
