A man was transported to Wilson Medical Center after firefighters rescued him from a house fire at 505 Kenan St. W. Wednesday afternoon.

Wilson Fire/Rescue crews arrived at the single story residence with fire showing from the front porch and attic. Deputy Fire Chief Jim Campbell said crews quickly extinguished the fire and a search of the residence was conducted.

“During the search, one victim was found and removed from the residence,” Campbell said. “The victim was then transferred to Wilson County EMS for treatment. Fire crews did exceptional work by locating the fire, finding the victim and transferring the victim to EMS care.”

Campbell said on Friday that he had no information on the man’s condition. He was awake and appeared to be alert when he was removed from the home.

Campbell said the fire was accidental. No firefighters were injured. Campbell estimated the losses at $30,000 for the property and $5,000 for its contents. The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance to the displaced family of four.

A total of 18 personnel and eight vehicles responded. Wilson Fire/Rescue Services was assisted by Wilson Police Department, Wilson County EMS, Wilson Utilities, American Red Cross and Wilson County Communications.
