    By Drew Wilson,

Police have charged a Wilson man with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle stemming from a June 18 wreck in which a motorcyclist was killed.

Timothy Devante Harris Jr., 28, turned himself in on Wednesday and was given a $3,000 unsecured bond.

The charges come following an investigation by the Wilson Police Department Strategic Traffic Enforcement Patrol, or STEP unit.

Police officers were called to N.C. 42 and Walnut Creek Drive at 9:42 p.m. on June 18 to a traffic collision, according to Sgt. Eric McInerny, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department.

“Officers arrived on scene and observed Wilson County Emergency Medical Services treating one of the drivers, Gerald Sessoms, 60, of Wilson,” McInerny said. “Sessoms, who was driving the motorcycle, was transported to ECU Health Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.”

McInerny stated in a release at the time of the wreck that a 2000 Ford sport utility vehicle and a 1998 Kawa motorcycle driven by Sessoms had collided.

According to a wreck report prepared by Wilson Police Officer J.C. Davies, Harris was making a left hand turn from N.C. 42 onto Walnut Creek Drive.

Harris turned in front of Sessoms, who was traveling east on N.C. 42.

Harris, the driver of the SUV, was not injured.

Police ask anyone with information about the case to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.
