As Kimco Backtracks — Subtracting a 5th Story — One P&Z Commissioner Declares “It’s Time for the Public to Be Heard”
For months, GOOD Morning Wilton has reported on rising debates over the role of the Planning and Zoning Commission and its rules governing public comments. Kimco’s highly visible redevelopment of the southern half of its Wilton Center campus into a five-story, 169-unit residential/commercial complex has been at the center of that discussion. On Monday, July 22, after a two-and-a-half year journey that began in December 2021, the project seemed poised to finally proceed to public comment and possibly an up or down vote by the Commission. This follows a meeting on July 8 in which the team seemed surprised by the amount of design pushback they received from the Commission after so much time spent in pre-application hearings.
Manhattan Museum Reopens in Time to Celebrate 10th Anniversary
After an extended closure, Manhattan Township Historical Society’s Museum again began welcoming visitors July 6 — and just in time for its 10-year anniversary this fall. The museum was forced to close at the end of March after heating issues and broken pipes caused significant water damage, leaving ceiling tiles on the floor and puddles of standing water inside the main museum entrance.
Manhattan School District Looks Forward to MJHS Opening
Manhattan’s School District looks forward to a fresh start for the upcoming school year as initial construction now is complete on the new junior high school. Though initial construction is complete, the district began a Phase 2 construction project to add amenities to the new school with leftover budgeted funds. That construction still is ongoing.
