The HC Community Band presents ‘The 1812 Overture’

On Sunday, June 2, the Hill Country Community Band will play a concert of “Showpieces for Band” at Avey Hall in the Chapel in the Hills Church, 14601 Ranch Road 12, at 4:00 P.M. In addition to the “1812 Overture” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the concert will include “Die Meistersinger,” by Richard Wagner, the “Candide Suite,” by Leonard Bernstein and “Beguine for Band,” by Glenn Osser.

One of Tchaikovsky’s most popular works, the “Overture of 1812” commemorates Russia’s successful defense against the French invasion of the country by Napoleon in 1812. The music includes parts of the French national anthem and the Tsarist National anthem, and ends with a brass fanfare, accompanied by cannon fire and the ringing of cathedral bells.

Directed by Dr. Manuel Arambula, the concert is family friendly and free to attend.

The Hill Country Community Band is a non-profit 501c3 organization and welcomes new members of all ages.
