Florence, North Bend, and Roseburg seeing sustained COVID-19 case increases
LANE AND DOUGLAS COUNTIES, Ore. – Parts of Oregon are seeing a spike in COVID-19 cases right now and state health officials are urging people to be cautious. According to the Oregon Health Authority’s website, Florence, North Bend, and Roseburg are seeing a sustained increase in the amount of COVID-19 tested in those areas’ wastewater samples, with Corvallis also seeing a slight increase. The Centers for Disease Control reported that Oregon, overall, is seeing more COVID cases than the national average and, while there are likely more unreported cases now than there were during the pandemic, more health officials are using a new method for testing for the virus.
Traffic Changes Coming at 35th and Rhododendron; Medicaid Enrollment; Scotch Broom Removal
Beginning August first there will be a change in the traffic pattern at the intersection of 35th street and Rhododendron Drive. The city will be initiating an all-stop pattern. That will mean all vehicles will have to come to a complete stop from 35th street, north on Rhododendron and south on Rhododendron. The city has added a dedicated turn lane for south bound traffic on Rhododendron for vehicles wishing to access 35th street. The intersection will have LED enhanced stop signs to illuminate the changes. Also as of August 1st the access point for the Humane Society and the Lane County Transfer Station will be from 35th street and no longer from the south by Wildwinds st. there will also be additional signage denoting the traffic pattern change. Bid approved for trail construction
At its July 15 meeting, the Florence City Council approved a construction bid for an estuary trail constructed of compressed gravel and parking area and trail head located at the southwest corner of the Spruce St. and Hwy. 126 intersection and with an access point on Quince Street. The trail will essentially follow the tree line from just south of Highway 126 near Munsel Creek to Quince Street about a half block south of the Florence Event Center.
