'Late Night' host and IndyCar owner David Letterman dines at downtown Des Moines restaurant
Television icon and IndyCar team owner David Letterman spent some time in downtown Des Moines ahead of the doubleheader IndyCar race at Iowa Speedway in Newton on Saturday. Letterman, who hosted the “Late Show with David Letterman” from 1993 to 2015, is in central Iowa for the IndyCar Hy-Vee Homefront 250 and Hy-Vee One Step 250 at the speedway. Letterman co-owns Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing with 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal and businessman Mike Lanigan, with Rahal’s son Graham Rahal in the driver’s seat.

Chargers Head Softball Coach on Season
With the 2024 season over, AC/GC Chargers Head Softball Coach Eric Van Meter looks back on the team’s season. Van Meter mentions that he’s proud of what the Chargers did this last season, as there was only one team he thought they didn’t play well against. The team ended the season with a 13-13 record on an 11-0 loss to the Van Meter Bulldogs. Van Meter tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the senior class for this year was a strong group that holds a special place in his heart, since his daughter is included among the five.
ADM Softball Gears Up for Regional Championship Tonight
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team is focusing on winning one final game against Winterset to advance to the state tournament in Fort Dodge. The Tigers will be in Adel tonight battle versus the Huskies in the Class 4A Region 4 Championship game. ADM and Winterset are super familiar with each other as they both represent the Raccoon River Conference and although the Tigers took both games this season, it was by one run in each game. ADM beat Winterset 2-1 in eight innings on June 5th and then captured a 6-5 victory in Adel on June 26th when Sophomore Lauren Hagedorn won the game on a walkoff in the seventh inning.

ADM’s Cameran Smith Recognized for Academic All-State
A senior from the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Softball team is being celebrated for her academic success. Senior Cameran Smith was recently named to the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) to be a member of the All-Academic Softball Team for 2023-2024. According to the IGCA, the award recognizes student athletes who achieve two of the three criteria’s to post an ACT Composite Score of 27 or higher, a cumulative Grand Point Average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher, or top 15-20% of their school’s senior class.

Perry Takes on DCG for Regional Championship Tonight
The Jayettes are just one win away from making a State Tournament appearance. Perry last appeared at the tournament in 2016. To make a trip to Fort Dodge they’ll have to get by the powerhouse DCG. The Mustangs own an impressive 31-8 record. They are the top seed in the region and beat Carroll 15-0 on Saturday. Perry upset Storm Lake 4-3 in the semifinal.
