BANGOR, Maine — The most recent campaign finance filing in Maine's 2nd Congressional District race shows both candidates are now backed by powerful special interest groups, though to varying degrees. Critter Chatter – A New Chapter
As noted in last month’s article, rehabber Don Cote at Duck Pond Wildlife Care Center was hospitalized for a week in late May. I’m relieved and happy to report that his recovery at home is going well and as we expected, it didn’t take long before he started taking calls about orphaned and injured critters. In fact, we recently purchased a new answering machine with a volume enhancer so he doesn’t miss any!

Midcoast Conservancy raises over $100,000 for conservation work
A bucolic setting at Inn Along the Way, cooperative weather, and over 250 festive guests all contributed to a fabulously successful fundraising event on behalf of Midcoast Conservancy on Thursday, July 18. The gala’s theme of “Coming Together” was a nod not only to the opportunity to gather with conservation-minded friends but also to Midcoast Conservancy’s work protecting and conserving the lands and waters which come together to form the the three watersheds it cares for, those of Damariscotta Lake, and the Sheepscot and Medomak rivers. In another thematic nod, newly-named Co-Executive Director of Conservation Sarah Giffen Carr was introduced to the guests and spoke about her passion for conservation work.
Route One: The road more traveled
The spot where last week’s serious crash occurred in Woolwich, at Route One and Montsweag Road, always looks like an accident in-waiting, on a number of fronts. In some of the same respects, the Route One-Nequasset Road intersection, also in Woolwich, used to also be hairy, particularly if trying to cross Route One.

Now we are wondering when it’ll rain; all our plants are withering! Oh well, let’s just be thankful that we are not roasting like most of the country. OK, yea, I know it’s hot – hot for here, but really not unbearable, and be thankful we have the beautiful waterfront outside our door! There are blessings.
