Everything You Need to Know About Maine’s New ‘Blue Envelope Program’
The Augusta Police Department announced something new that pulled me in. The Blue Envelope Program is a new program geared towards having a better level of interaction between officers and folks with disabilities or special needs, including down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, dementia, and even anxiety and depression. The program was created by the Down Syndrome Advocacy Project of Maine.
Midcoast Conservancy raises over $100,000 for conservation work
A bucolic setting at Inn Along the Way, cooperative weather, and over 250 festive guests all contributed to a fabulously successful fundraising event on behalf of Midcoast Conservancy on Thursday, July 18. The gala’s theme of “Coming Together” was a nod not only to the opportunity to gather with conservation-minded friends but also to Midcoast Conservancy’s work protecting and conserving the lands and waters which come together to form the the three watersheds it cares for, those of Damariscotta Lake, and the Sheepscot and Medomak rivers. In another thematic nod, newly-named Co-Executive Director of Conservation Sarah Giffen Carr was introduced to the guests and spoke about her passion for conservation work.

Skowhegan tops 36ers in American Legion Southern Zone championship
The Boothbay 36ers may be down, but they are not out of the Maine State American Legion tournament. Skowhegan defeated Boothbay, 4-3, on July 22 in the Maine State American Legion Senior Baseball tournament. Skowhegan earns the No. 1 south seed in this weekend’s state tournament in Bangor. Boothbay will be the No. 2 south seed. The 36ers will play at 4:30 p.m. on July 27 at Mansfield Stadium. Each of the four state tournament participants also play a Sunday game.
