Bloomsburg, Pa. — A woman lied about her husband's income to collect more than $7,000 worth of assistance from the state, officials say.

Morgan B. Adee, 32, applied for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) on Sept. 20, 2021, according to Ruth Gola of the State Inspector General's office. Adee told a caseworker she lived with her husband, Matthew, and her four children. Adee was working at The Gardens at Orangeville, but her husband was unemployed, she reportedly said.

On Dec. 16 of that same year, Adee also applied for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), for which she was approved. Between October of 2021 and February of 2022, Adee collected $5,973 in food stamps and another $1,355 in heating assistance, reports say.

In January, Adee's case was referred to the Inspector General's office, who discovered Matthew Adee began working for Good Transport Services in Benton August of 2021 — weeks before Morgan Adee claimed he was jobless on her welfare application, charges say. In addition to a regular income from his job, Matthew Adee also allegedly received overtime pay, as well as paid holidays and vacation.

In total, Adee fraudulently collected $7,328, according to court papers.

Adee, who currently resides in Winfield, was charged with felony fraud for making false statements to obtain financial assistance.
