Pennsylvania casinos ask court to force state to tax skill games found in stores equally to slots
The owners of twelve Pennsylvania casinos have asked the state’s highest court to declare that a tax on slot machine revenue is unconstitutional because the state doesn’t impose it broadly on cash-paying electronic game terminals known as skill games that can be found in many bars and stores.

With pertussis, or whooping cough, on the rise nationally and in Pennsylvania, Penn State reported on Monday that it has had several cases of the respiratory illness since the spring at University Park. Pa. man arrested for speeding on motorcycle with dog on lap and drugs in sock
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A man from Pennsylvania was arrested after authorities said he was speeding on his motorcycle with a dog on his lap and drugs in his sock. Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release that 28-year-old Devin Yake was charged in connection with the incident in Lancaster County last week. State police said Yake was pulled over on Willow Valley Drive in West Lampeter Township around 12:30 a.m. on July 23 for multiple traffic violations, including speeding and careless driving. State police said Yake had a pit bull on his lap while driving and methamphetamine in his sock, plus marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Yake, who had active warrants for his arrest, was taken into custody and placed in the Lancaster County Prison. State police said he also appeared to be under the influence. The pit bull was taken to Yake's address and "released to a responsible party," state police said in the news release. Yake is facing a list of charges, including DUI and drug possession.
New law will allow Pa. Treasury to automatically return unclaimed property to owners
Harrisburg, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Treasury is home to approximately $4.5 billion in unclaimed property such as abandoned stocks and bank accounts, uncashed checks, and unused safety deposit box contents. To return some of this property to rightful owners, the Pa. government has passed Act 81 of 2024. Act 81, which will take effect on Jan. 14, 2025, creates the new Pennsylvania Money Match program.
