Marijuana grow operation broken up in Hughesville
Hughesville, Pa. — Lycoming County detectives took down a marijuana grow operation up in Hughesville this month. According to investigators, a home in the 300 block of S. Second Street belonging to Richard Al Thompson, 45, had 12 plants and several pounds of the marijuana inside. Harvested plants, UV lights, potting soil, and dead marijuana plants were also taken by investigators, according to the complaint. Thompson is being charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession. He is free on $15,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing with Judge Kirsten Gardner is scheduled for August. Docket sheet

Williamsport, Pa. — Building on the strength of the Clean Water Institute and their existing biology program, Lycoming College is launching a major in environmental science in time for fall 2024. The new major is expected to attract students interested in the rapidly growing green jobs sector.
