WINNEBAGO, Neb. ( KCAU ) — The public is being invited to offer input on a proposed alteration to the Winnebago Tribe Broadband Fiber Optic Project.

According to a release , the project is intended to deploy a broadband infrastructure network for unserved or underserved tribal households, businesses, and community institutions such as schools and medical facilities.

The project consists of internet fiber installation below the channel grade and floodplain width of floodplain crossings under the Missouri River in affected areas.

The release states that the project would provide broadband services to 600 unserved Native American households, 40 unserved Native American businesses, and 16 tribal institutions. Additionally, the project features a rate stabilization program that will provide up to a maximum payment on broadband household monthly bills, assisting those who may struggle to afford connectivity and preventing the disconnection of service.

The release noted that the project would have several economic benefits, including creating remote employment and entrepreneurial opportunities and increasing the availability of remote learning and telehealth services.

The release specified that only project elements that would alter the Federal Project are within the review scope.
