While the nation’s best swimmers were breaking records in the Olympic trials in Indianapolis, Bolton Pool was the place to be in Winston-Salem, where the neighborhood’s swimmers were competing at the Greater Winston-Salem Swimming Championships, also known as Robin Jacobs City Meet.

The Waterford Stingrays swam in the annual event on June 21, bringing home memories and several notable awards. Each year, neighborhood pools and swim clubs compete for top honors in individual and team events, as well as spirit contests. The theme for this year’s spirit competition was the movie “Toy Story.”

For the second year in a row, the Stingrays won second place overall in the large team division. Fast swimming helped the Stingrays break two city meet records and secure two highest-point awards.

The 11-12 boys medley and free relay team, consisting of Holden Carruthers, Liam Hennis, Isaac McKinnon and Hawken Tate, bested the city meet records broken just the year before by the Stingrays.

Two swimmers scored the most points in their age groups:  Hawken Tate (11-12 boys), while Nolan Hennis (13-14 boys) tied with another team’s swimmer.

Waterford’s next meet will be on Tuesday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m. when they host New Sherwood.  Waterford pool is located at 1600 Slane Road in Clemmons
