Lake Alert: Winter Park’s Dinky Dock beach closed to swimming
The City of Winter Park recently posted to its Facebook page that its popular Rollins College-adjacent lakefront park, Dinky Dock, had been closed to swimming. The reason given for the closure was “elevated bacterial levels” in Lake Virginia, which is a regular occurrence during the warmer months. Warmer freshwater in the summer can increase the risk of bacterial or amoebic infections. The City of Winter Park will continue to monitor water quality in the coming weeks and will update the public when they can return to swimming in the lake.
