“On 06/21/24 at around 6:00 pm, a Deputy assigned to the Winterhaven Division conducted a traffic stop for a driver not wearing seatbelt and speeding. A registration check of the vehicle showed the vehicle was suspended. During an inventory search of the vehicle, a loaded and unregistered firearm was located.

DPS is remembering fallen Trooper, 41-year-old Sgt. Michael Crowe who was shot to death on this day in 1995, along with Yuma Police Department Lt. Dan Elkins, after they arrived at the Southwest Border Alliance headquarters building near the Yuma International Airport. As they entered the building, they were both shot by the suspect. Yuma County Sheriff’s Deputy, Jack Hudson was arrested for double murder. He was a fellow member of the same narcotics task force. He was sentenced to life in prison.
