GSA Awards $174M Contract for Final Phase of Calexico West POE
CALEXICO — The U.S. General Services Administration announced its selection of Hensel Phelps Construction Co. to provide design-build services for the final phase of a major modernization and expansion project at the Calexico West Land Port of Entry, one of the busiest ports of entry between the United States and Mexico, on Friday, July 26. GSA awarded the contract for $173.6 million to the Phoenix, Arizona-based firm to complete the port project.

Holtville 8U finishes runner-up in World Series
The Holtville 8U All-Star baseball team wrapped up a successful summer with a runner-up finish in the World Series. Holtville traveled down south to play in the USSSA 8U World Series held in Baton Rouge, La. Holtville’s team, which consists of Barrett Ward, Caleb Watkins, Easton Wylie, Ryder Hoots, Grady Grider, Lewis Smith, Zac Montgomery, Granger Strength, Asher Fullerton, Ryker Ingram, Fisher Allen and Cooper Smitherman, went 10-2 in the tournament and finished runner-up to Northport in the championship game.
California fire rapidly reaches state's top 10 biggest ever
A fire raging out of control in northern California has rapidly become among the biggest ever in the western US state, authorities said Saturday. The so-called Park Fire had burned almost 350,000 acres (142,000 hectares) as of late Saturday morning, making it the seventh-largest ever recorded in California history, the state agency Cal Fire said on X. The fire, which prompted orders for more than 4,000 people to flee their homes, was burning through a largely rural, mountainous area near the city of Chico, some 90 miles (145 kilometers) north of state capital Sacramento.
