NEW BERN, N.C. (WNCT) — The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has identified a man killed in a fiery crash along U.S. Highway 70 near mile marker 406.

The crash happened June 30 at around 3:43 p.m. when a vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree. The vehicle caught fire and people nearby tried to get the driver, 53-year-old Dana Alden Sanford, of Winterville, out of the vehicle but were unable to.
