As political events go, it was a bit quaint. In a small, out-of-the-way town that politicians have been known to overlook, residents of all political stripes gathered as neighbors in a rustic grange hall — on a sweltering summer evening when they could have been doing other Methow-ish things — to hear candidates for important local offices talk about themselves and answer a moderator’s questions. Nothing fancy, nothing contrived, nothing divisive. It was old-fashioned, civil and social.
