    Gov. Evers approves WIS 23 improvements in Sauk County

    SAUK COUNTY, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Sunday Governor Tony Evers signed a $4.6 million contract to resurface Wisconsin Highway 23 in Wisconsin Dells.

    WisDOT said the project will improve traffic operations and road quality by resurfacing roads between WIS 23 and WIS 33, in Reedsburg and County P in Sauk County. Beam guard will be replaced on the bridge over Dell Creek, shoulders will be widened and paved between Turtle Creek and Water Street, and subgrade will be improved near Shady Lane and Dell Creek.

    WisDOT said WIS 23 will be reconstructed in two stages. In the first stage, the road will be closed to through traffic and detour, using WIS 33 and US 12. In the second stage, WIS 23 will remain open under flagging operations.

    WisDOT said preliminary work is scheduled to begin July 22, and project completion is scheduled for Oct. 31, 2024. More information about the project and other traffic impacts can be found on the 511 Wisconsin Projects website .
