UM Health-Sparrow sees Q1 decrease in drug-related deaths since 2019
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Fewer people are dying from drugs in Michigan, according to a Q1 report by the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services. UM Health-Sparrow released its quarter one (Q1) report on drug-related deaths in seven counties, including Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Livingston, and Shiawassee, in which it serves as medical examiner.

In the wake of a deadly tornado that ripped through Livonia on June 5, leaving a young boy dead and his mother injured, Michigan's congressional representatives are pressing for answers from the National Weather Service (NWS). The tornado, classified as an EF-1 with winds peaking at 95 mph, struck without warning, prompting questions about the effectiveness of existing weather alert systems. According to The Detroit News, U.S. Reps. The 2024 Grand Marshal for the City of Brighton’s Independence Day Parade has been announced. The Livingston Sunrise Rotary has named 42-year-old Mark Howell of Brighton this year’s Grand Marshal. Howell is well known for his contributions as the founder of Fund a Life. Two weeks before his firstborn child. Gabriel, was born, Mark was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma Cancer in 2012. Through his courageous battle, he was the recipient of countless donations and gifts from family and friends. Through the cancer treatment Mark was determined to live his life with purpose, which served as the catalyst for Fund a Life, which was founded in 2017.
