NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WJBF) — If you live, work, or play near SRP Park, you might have noticed some orange “seized” signs on parking decks nearby. But don’t worry, the parking decks are still open. The parking decks were part of the original development and have become busier with all the new apartments and businesses in the area. The reason for the seized signs? More than $145,000 in unpaid property taxes. Notices sent by mail have been returned.

“Typically during this time of year, all the taxes become due on those types of properties and they were delinquent on their taxes,” Aiken County Council Vice-Chairman Andrew Siders shared.

Even though city taxes are up-to-date, the problem is with Aiken County taxes. Letters have been sent to Greenstone, the owner. “We post the seized sign so that lets everyone know that they need to take action very soon,” he added.

Local events and projects won’t be affected, the decks will stay open. “They haven’t had any problems in the past and I assume that they’ll be able to clear this up pretty quickly,” Siders said.

If the taxes aren’t paid, the property could be up for sale on Monday, November 4.
