Two escaped inmates captured in Richmond County

(WJBF) – Two inmates on the run have been taken into custody in Richmond County.

58-year-old George Carter and 30-year-old Matthew Connelly reportedly walked away from a work detail, organized through the Augusta Transitional Center.

An alert was put out Thursday morning for a stolen black Toyota Tacoma. A Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted the vehicle on Washington Road at Davis Road before following it to Shartom Drive in Richmond County, where additional CCSO, RCSO, and US Marshall’s Service units convened.

Carter and Connelly were taken into custody after a felony take down. Both suspects and the vehicle were turned over to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshall’s Service.
