Doctors Hospitals’ new freestanding ER coming to Evans

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The wait is finally over for Doctors Hospital. The state of Georgia gave its approval to build a new free-standing emergency room in Evans.

That ER will go on Belair Road, where the old Fatz Cafe restaurant used to be. The gates are locked at the property where the new facility will be, but not for much longer.

“…We are so excited to, now, move forward with demolition of the former structure of the building, and building our new freestanding emergency department,” CEO of Doctors Hospital of Augusta Joanna Conley said.

The nearly 11-thousand square foot ER will be built on a 2.7-acre parcel, formerly known as Fatz Cafe.

“We’ll have 11 total treatment rooms, including a trauma room, as well as CT, X-Ray Pharmacy and laboratory services. So, it is a full-service emergency department…,” Conley said.

The building will face North Belair, right across from Piedmont Healthcare’s Primary Care campus.

“So, we’re excited that we’ve been serving the CSRA for the past 50 years at Doctors Hospital. This is a separate and distinct organization from the hospital that WellStar MCG is currently building in the Grovetown area,” Conly said.

Doctors Hospital CEO Joanna Conley says you can expect the facility to be in service by late 2025.

It’s important to remember this new facility is separate from the WellStar MCG hospital coming to Grovetown.
