BAMBERG COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – When Bamberg County students start back Monday, some of them will take classes preparing them for work right after they graduate.

Last year the Career Center offered a welding class.

District officials saw an uptick in those enrollment numbers so and this year a cosmetology class has been added.

Superintendent Dr. Dottie Brown says it’s all in an effort to help students start their careers early and save money.

“Lots of students now are ‘okay, how can I get out of high school and go to work, and what can I specialize in to where I can earn a living to support myself and my family as quickly as possible?'” said Dr. Dottie Brown, Superintendent, Bamberg County School District.

The Bamberg County School District includes 6 schools and this year that means about 1,800 students.
