BIG STONE GAP, Va. (WJHL) – The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park will host its “Prowl the Powell” nature series on the third Saturday of each month, the park announced in a release on Wednesday.

Participants will start their day on the Greenbelt in Big Stone Gap and then learn about the Powell River and Valley.

“Considered the most biodiverse waterway in the nation, just behind the Clinch River with which it converges, the Powell River is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife and environmental wonders,” the park said in the release.

The monthly nature series will happen rain or shine. The park asks guests to dress appropriately; comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Park rangers and volunteers will lead the events, the release said. The Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.

For more information contact the park at (276) 523-1322 or visit www.virginiastateparks.gov .
