BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — Students at Holston View Elementary School in Bristol, Tennessee heard stories from volunteers across campus.

The Storytelling Caravan returned for its third year at the school with parents, community volunteers and even some students setting up stations across the campus.

“It’s just an opportunity for family members, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, babysitters, people in the community to come in, choose a story, and to read that story to all of the different children in our school,” Kindergarten teacher Michelle Poole said.

Stations each feature a different story to be read to the kids in the hopes of fostering a love of reading.

“It’s just fun every year to get the kids engaged in pieces of literature, and this year is the first year that we have students here who have experienced it for the past two years who wanted to be presenters,” Poole said.

In addition to the actual storyteller, some volunteers added background noises or operated props at the stations to make the stories more engaging. One station was set up outside and featured live animals.

“I think if you can turn kids on to reading, it’s a superpower,” Poole said.

A stage was set up in one classroom for its station. The volunteers there read “Rot, the Cutest in the World!” by Ben Clanton.
