KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — A new Infectious Diseases Clinic operated by ETSU Health has opened its doors in Kingsport.

The clinic will give residents of Sullivan County and surrounding areas access to infectious disease services.

“It’s incredibly important for this region,” ETSU Department of Medicine’s Vice Chairman Dr. Jonathan Moorman said. “We have had services in Johnson City for many years, but patients that live in Sullivan County, patients [who] live in Kingsport, had to drive to Johnson City. All of the surrounding rural areas had to drive to Johnson City, and now they don’t have to. They can come here to this facility and get state-of-the-art clinical services that were up ’til now just not available.”

Moorman said the clinic, located at 105 West Park Drive, Suite 2A, covers various skin infections, lung infections, pneumonia, brain infections, heart infections and chronic viral infections like HIV and hepatitis C.

“An infectious [disease] is what we would call a cognitive specialty,” Moorman said. “So we really, really focus on using our brains to figure things out. We don’t do a lot of procedures when we think about the entire patient from top to bottom so that we can come up with our diagnoses in our treatment plans.”

ETSU’s Center of Excellence for HIV/AIDS will also operate in the building.
