MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Town of Mountain City announced Thursday that the town has entered into an agreement to merge the Cold Springs Utility District into the town’s water system.

According to the town, about 350 Cold Springs customers will join Mountain City’s water and wastewater system effective immediately.

In a release, Mayor Jerry Jordan said “this has been an ongoing and collaborative process between the City, the Colds Springs Utility Board and Johnson County.”

The county commission approved the consolidation in April. County Mayor Larry Potter then signed it after a public hearing and other required approvals.

“On behalf of the Town of Mountain City Board of Mayor and Aldermen, I would like to thank Johnson County Mayor Larry Potter, the Johnson County Commission and the board members and customers of Colds Springs Utility for their support of the merger,” Jordan said.

According to the town, Mountain City will manage several existing and new projects with the Cold Springs system, including the replacement of water lines and meters and the automation of plant facilities. The state provided $997,500 in grant funding for the improvements. Once the improvements are finished, a rate study will be conducted.

Cold Springs customers can continue to call and visit the office at 1635 Cold Springs Road. Customers may call 423-727-8851 or 423-727-8005 during business hours with questions or concerns.

Employees of the Cold Springs district are now employed by the town.
