    Six teens plead guilty to attempted carjacking in Ridgeland

    RIDGELAND, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Six teenagers pled guilty for attempting to carjack a man in Ridgeland.

    Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett said Ahmaud Lampkin, 14; Cortarrius Huff, 19; Pernell Moore, 16; Braylon Cooper, 17; Tristan Burns, 14; Camerious Huff, 16, all pled guilty in front of Judge Dewey Arthur in Madison County Circuit Court.

    On December 31, 2023, investigators said the teens left a hotel on Ridgewood Road and began walking through the At Home parking lot and onto County Line Road. According to investigators, they had a handgun and were planning on carjacking someone.

    The teens arrived at the Ridgeland Ranch Apartments and found a man loading items into his car. According to Bramlett, four of the teens approached the man and took his keys while threatening him with the gun. However, the teens were unable to start the car and ran away.

    Ridgeland police were notified, and they located four of the teens in the Northpark area of the city.

    Bramlett said investigators were able to obtain fingerprints off the victim’s car that matched one of the suspects. They also obtained surveillance video from multiple businesses on County Line Road showing the teens’ approach and departure from the crime scene. Bramlett said a forensic examination of a cell phone contained a video of the teens joking about carjacking someone while waving the gun around.

    The district attorney said Lampkin was the individual holding the gun during the carjacking. He pled guilty to armed carjacking and conspiracy to commit armed carjacking. Lampkin was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

    Huff pled guilty to armed carjacking and directing a minor to commit a felony. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Moore pled guilty to armed carjacking and conspiracy. He sentenced to 10 years in prison. Cooper pled guilty to armed carjacking, and he will be sentenced on September 30, 2024.

    Bramlett said the remaining two teenagers were not in the immediate vicinity of the victim during the carjacking, because they ran away when a firearm was displayed.

    Burns pled guilty to conspiracy to commit armed carjacking and was sentenced to
    serve one year, and Huff pled guilty to conspiracy to commit armed carjacking and was sentenced to five years in prison.
