In a news release from the Columbia School District, an investigation determined that no students in the district were involved in the incident.

“The individual in question was promptly removed from our campus and arrested by the Columbia Police Department. We understand that this news may be alarming. We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation led by the CPD under the direction of Interim Police Chief Brad Anderson,” the school district said in a statement.

Officials said Rushing had only been employed by the Columbia Police Department and on duty with the school district for two weeks.

WHLT reached out to the Columbia Police Department about the case, and they declined to comment.
