Nicolas Cage’s son arrested, charged with felony after incident with mother

(WJW) – Nicolas Cage’s son, Weston Coppola Cage, was arrested Monday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon, a felony.

According to Los Angeles County arrest records, the 33-year-old was arrested on July 10 at 7 a.m. at the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to PEOPLE , a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said Cage turned himself in on a warrant stemming from an incident on April 28 in which a verbal argument with his mother, Christina Fulton, became physical at her Los Angeles home.

According to PEOPLE , authorities presented the case to the district attorney’s office on May 10. The DA filed two counts of assault with a deadly weapon against Cage on June 26. An arrest warrant was later issued.

According to PEOPLE , Cage’s mother said there was no argument on April 28. According to TMZ , no arrests were made at the time.

Fulton told PEOPLE in a statement that she was contacted by some of Cage’s “best friends” for help because they believed he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

“I acted swiftly to ensure his safety. Upon my arrival, I was met by my son who clearly was in a state of a mental-health breakdown, which in turn became a horrific experience,” Fulton said in part.

Fulton also told PEOPLE that she has always helped her son with his mental health struggles.

“I am doing all I can to get him the continued support he needs,” she said.

Cage was released on July 10 after posting a $150,000 bond, according to the arrest records .
