CLEVELAND (WJW) – The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazard statement that warns swimmers to stay out of parts of Lake Erie due to a “high risk of rip currents.”

According to FOX 8 Meteorologist Alexis Walters , gusty northwest winds will make Lake Erie choppy.

The NWS statement reads, “Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake.”
