    Why you might hear gunfire, explosions this week

    NEWTON FALLS, Ohio (WJW) – It may get extra noisy this week in Northeast Ohio.

    Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center in Newton Falls is planning explosives training.

    The Ohio Army National Guard’s 147 th Regiment will be setting off big blasts on Wednesday, August 28, and Thursday, August 29.

    The training will include gunfire and intermittent explosions, which may be heard farther away than usual.

    The training is meant to simulate realistic battle conditions.

    Training season runs through September, according to the military.

    Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center is an Ohio Army National Guard training site in Portage and Trumbull counties, with various small arms and machine gun weapons ranges.
