BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A local elementary school honored some of its own Tuesday.

Robinwood Lane Elementary School in Boardman celebrated the completion of its new Memory Garden on Tuesday with a dedication ceremony at the garden.

The Memory Garden is located right at the front entrance of the school and was created to honor the memory of four Boardman students including kindergartener Anastasia Weaver who passed away in January 2023 and Robinwood’s beloved school nurse Amy Carkido who died 10 months later after a fight with cancer.

“We want people to as soon as they walk up to our school see this garden and smile whether they know what it’s for or not,” said Reading Center Teacher Candice Wright. “We want it to be a positive place where people smile and are happy and yes there was loss but now we want people to remember the happiness that those people brought to everyone’s lives.”

The generosity of others made the garden possible including Petitti Garden Center’s plant donation and Tony DiGiacomo and his crew at Second Nature Landscape Services who gifted services to create the garden.
