LIBERTY TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – With the 80th anniversary of D-Day about a week away, one local resident is keeping her father’s story alive with artifacts.

Sue Miller’s father Sam Coniglio enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940 where he was in the second wave at Normandy, France on June 6th, 1944.

Miller still has the original letter President Dwight Eisenhower sent her father regarding the war 80 years ago.

She also has every single letter her father sent home while he was enlisted.

“We don’t ever realize how young these boys are that go to war and you know, we don’t ever hear their voices and you don’t know what they go through or what they’re thinking or what they’re writing. It’s just so amazing,” said Miller.

Miller says every soldier’s story should be told and remembered.
