BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio Senate candidate Bernie Moreno was in the Valley Wednesday evening.

His statewide bus tour took him to Boardman for a rally at the Mahoning County Republican Headquarters.

About 140 people came to hear Moreno speak.

After an introduction from Representative Michael Rulli, Moreno talked for about 50 minutes. His speech covered the border, Ukraine, and bringing manufacturing back to the country and Valley.

“That’s coal, natural gas, oil so we can make steel here again by American companies, make cars, car parts — not batteries that people don’t want but real manufacturing here. So somebody can graduate with a high school degree and live a good American life with a good job. That’s what we’re going to do to the Valley,” Moreno said.

He said if he’s elected, his Day 1 issue is to secure the border. Moreno wants people to come to the country on our terms.

Protestors from the Ohio Democratic Party were just outside the headquarters, calling Moreno out for “stiffing workers.”

In a release sent to First News, the Ohio Democratic Party said, in part:

From stealing his employees’ wages and shredding evidence to try to get out of paying them, to lying about selling Chinese-made cars at Ohio workers’ expense, Ohioans see that Moreno won’t fight for them because he’s only out for himself.

According to a press release from the Ohio Democratic Party, Ohioans in Youngstown were protesting “Moreno’s record of refusing to pay his employees.”
