SEBRING, Ohio (WKBN) – The former site of Royal China in Sebring is currently getting cleaned up for future use.

Fire destroyed much of the remaining building back in January of 2011. Back in the 70s Royal China employed more than 700 people and was the third largest China company in the country.
The person who bought the land is a Sebring native and wants to do something great for his hometown.

“So this is more than 20 acres at the former Royal Sebring site, so in terms of size, it has potential for redevelopment but because it was a China manufacturing facility, there was a great deal of contamination that seeped into the ground and no developer wants to deal with that aspect of it. They want to build and move forward, not take care of what happened in the past so the grant through the Ohio Department of Development was a difference maker for sure,” said Deb Flora with the Mahoning County Land Bank.

The remediation phase is almost complete and the the people of Sebring are probably seeing some truck activity there. Final grading is happening on the site and the soil that needed removed is gone and replaced.

The bulk of the work will be completed soon.
